Income shortfall forces St Peter's Hospice to close site

Bristol's only hospice for adults says redundancies likely
Bristol’s only hospice for adults is to close one of its two sites because of a £500,000 shortfall in income.
St Peter’s Hospice, which employs 350 staff, blamed a fall in legacy and investment income for the decline in income, which could lead to the loss of between 10 and 20 jobs.
St Peter’s site at Knowle will close by the end of the year and the land will be sold. Staff that are not made redundant will transfer to the charity’s other site at Brentry.
"In light of our dramatic decrease in income, we have looked at how best we can use our remaining resources to best continue to provide the level of specialised care that local people with terminal illnesses need," said Sandie Foxall-Smith, chief executive of the hospice.
"By moving our inpatient beds and working from one site in Brentry, we will make a saving of more than £500,000 a year in our overall running costs while still delivering the same level of care."
St Peter’s requires £5.5m to maintain its sites and provide home-based palliative care to people in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
