Commission asked to help tackle Muslim extremism

The Government has given the Charity Commission £1.2m towards setting up a faith unit that will try to help combat extremism by improving leadership and governance in Muslim charities, including mosques.

Sarah Atkinson, head of corporate affairs at the Commission, said the funding, which will come from the Department for Communities and Local Government, was separate from the £1m the Commission was given by the Treasury last month to counter terrorism.
